Method 3: Social Awareness – Empathy and Change of Perspective
Nov 19, 2021
Learning Objectives
In this part we will work for developing the social awareness of the youth workers and young people.
The first component, empathy, is the ability to understand the emotions, needs and concerns of others.
The next step is increasing the community awareness: the ability to understand the policies and rules in a community or organization and how they affect the people in it.
This should logically lead to understanding and accepting differences: in values, beliefs, cultures, out-groups and so. In this way we aim at increasing value complexity of the target groups, since research shows that value monism (living by one overarching value, for example religious rules) is a key characteristic of radicalised people.
